TRAIN

It is an option that will allow you to make trips in an economical, comfortable and fast way. In addition, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful sea views during all along the journey.

What should you keep in mind?

  • The landing can be in two different terminals

Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). The airport train station is located on T2, but if you land on T1, don’t worry, there is a free shuttle bus that connects the two terminals 24 hours a day.

Bus crossing frequency

From 0:00 to 5:00: every 20 minutes approx.
5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. : Every 15 minutes.
8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. : every 10 minutes.
from 20:00 to 0:00 : every 15 minutes
The tour takes about 10 minutes

This is the current schedule (07/09/2021), however, for possible variations in the schedule, you can check the schedules here.

  • You will need to make a transfer

You will need to take 2 trains (R2 and R1). You will leave the airport (remember that from T2) with the R2 line. The journey from the airport to Barcelona-Sants takes about 20 minutes.

When you arrive in Barcelona-Sants, you will have to get off and transfer by taking the R1, which will take you to Calella. The connection is very good and fast, as it can be done within the same station (Barcelona Sants). You will only need to buy 1 ticket at the airport station and it will be enough to go to Calella. Along the way, you will enjoy the stunning sea views. The journey takes approximately 55 min – 1h.

Check schedules here.

  • When you arrive in Calella

When you arrive at Calella station, you have several options to get to the Hotel Bernat II. On the one hand, considering the fantastic train station location (in the city center), you can get there perfectly on foot (15-20 min). On the other hand, if you carry a lot of luggage, there is a taxi rank right outside the door.

BUS

Going by bus to Calella is also a very good option, as you won’t have to make transfers and there is a stop right in front of the Hotel Bernat II (St. Jaume – Mar).

What should you keep in mind?

  • Airport stops

You can take the bus from two different stops at the airport, at Terminal T1 on platforms 10-11-12 or at Terminal T2 C Interurban. If you arrive at a different terminal, do not worry, there is a free shuttle bus service that makes connections between the terminals 24 hours a day.

  • Buy ticket

In order to be able to buy the ticket, we recommend you to do it through the website so that you do not have to worry about queues.

  • Frequency

It is important to note that the frequency of the bus is not as high as the train ones (every 2 or 3 hours). However, if the timetables coincide with your flight, it is a very interesting option considering that it leaves you in front of the Hotel Bernat II and you won’t have to do the transfer. Check schedules here.

ORGANIZED TRANSPORT

On the other hand, if you wish, we can arrange a private transfer for you only. Write to us at hotelbernat@hotelbernat.com and we will inform you.

If you prefer a shared transfer, we recommend you look at the page www.barcelonatransfers.com where you can book the service that suits you best.

Calella is, among the Costa de Barcelona towns with the Family Tourism Destination (DTF) seal, the largest and the one with more activities on offer for families with children. If you have kids, you are probably looking for a comfortable and safe destination to go on holiday where your children can stay constantly busy while the older ones can enjoy the peace that allows you to disconnect. Calella, then, is the ideal choice. It is a small town in the Maresme region located one hour away from Barcelona. It is very accessible, as it can be reached both by train, perfectly connected to all the cities in the area, and by car, as it has perfectly connected roads.

It is true that September begins, but … Who says that means that the summer is ending? In Calella we are lucky to enjoy a warm and temperate climate that allows us to continue enjoying the holidays and our beautiful beaches during the days of September. At the Hotel Bernat II, we love to take advantage of the summer until the last moment and we want you to do the same, the number of plans that can be done in our city is a lot and what better way to do them with the family to finish squeezing the holidays. To plan these sunny days before you start the routine, we give you a series of ideas of places to visit and activities to do so you don’t get bored for a moment.

NAVIGATE THROUGH THE CALELLA SEA

Enjoy a boat ride along the Costa de Calella with Dofí Jet Boats. This company has a regular line of maritime passenger transport authorized by the Generalitat de Catalunya and offers boat trips by sea to enjoy the coast of Barcelona via Calella. The route allows you to observe the long and wide beaches of golden sand to the mouth of the Tordera, the city of Blanes with the rock of Sa Palomera as the welcome door to the Costa Brava and the tourist area of Lloret de Mar. In its boats you can discover the beautiful fauna of the seabed thanks to the underwater view that will delight the little ones in the house. There is also a solarium, toilets, music and a bar. It is a practical and different way to visit the most beautiful villages on the Costa Brava: you can stroll through the botanical garden of Blanes, the beaches of Lloret de Mar and discover the medieval town of Tossa, declared a National Historic Artistic Monument.

You can take it from 09:00am to 17:00pm and you can check the schedules here. You can buy tickets both at the box office (which you will find at Garbí Beach, right in front of the Bahari Club, the Beach Club of the Hotel Bernat II) but we recommend you do so through the website, as this way you will be able to enjoy a 10% discount!

DISCOVER THE FLORA AND FAUNA OF THE CITY

From the Hotel Bernat II we invite you to discover the flora and fauna of a place that integrates in full harmony the sea and the mountain. These are short and easy routes that will allow you to get to know the city and its surroundings in a different way. In addition, we consider that during the month of September, it is an ideal time to make these small excursions, as the weather is not so hot and in addition, there are fewer tourists.

Squirrel Route

The Squirrel Route is a small route that is part of the nature itineraries of Calella. It is very well signposted along its route, with a squirrel on a red background. It has a length of 3km and a duration of 1 hour. It is a circular route so it will not be necessary to make a return trip.

It is a walk through Calella that begins in the Plaza de Sant Elm, follows the Platja Gran beach, goes up the streets of the village towards the Muntanyeta sports area, visits the Dalmau Park and returns to the beach passing by the Plaza de Spain. Dalmau Park is a magnificent natural space with gardens and an example of the typical Mediterranean forest with pine trees and holm oaks ideal for enjoying nature and rest.

Sea Crow Route

The Sea Crow Route is a small excursion that is part of the nature itineraries of Calella which is perfectly signposted along its route with a cormorant on a blue circle. Its difficulty is low-medium with a length of 3km and a duration of approximately 1 hour and a half.

It is a perfect walk that follows the seafront of Calella from Garbí beach to La Cabra beach, passing by Valldenguli and Torretes. This route allows us to observe the cormorants drying on the rocks and get to know the Mediterranean landscape full of bushes and pine forests where the birds hide.

Guilla Route

We present a small route that is part of the nature itineraries of Calella. This is the Guilla route, which has a medium-high difficulty with a length of 10km and a duration of 2h and 30 min. This is very well signposted along its route, as route number 3 with the symbol of a fox and a yellow background.

The route starts at Garbí beach, the beach where the Hotel Bernat II is located, and leaves behind the town of Calella to climb the Sierra de Guilles, a biological corridor that allows the connectivity of the Parc del Monte-gre and Corridor with the Mediterranean coast. The route goes through a typical Mediterranean landscape dominated by cork oak, siliceous bushes, crops and dry grasslands where animals such as squirrel, badger, genet and guilla abound, the mammal that gives the route its name.

HAVE FUN IN THE WATER PARKS

August is over, but this does not mean that the water parks are closed, in fact, it is the best time to go! There are far fewer queues and it will be much less hot while you wait for your session on the hilarious slides. Any time is ideal to enjoy a unique and memorable romantic getaway. What about this weekend? It is a perfect plan to surprise your partner either to celebrate a special date or simply to give yourself a well-deserved treat. Living new experiences and discovering different destinations together is always a good idea to have all that time that perhaps, during the day-to-day routine, you don’t have.

It is very important to find the right place where you can relax as a couple, however, who does not feel like going to the sea, sunbathing in the sun and doing a good trip along the coast? This is why Calella is a perfect destination to make your getaway, which is only 45 minutes from Barcelona. As we mentioned in the previous post, in which we talked about ideal plans to do in Calella with the family, its exceptional location makes it a first-rate coastal destination. Its town center stretches for three kilometers, between the golden sand beaches and Montnegre. In the old part of Calella, you can discover its history and contemplate its Renaissance houses, one of its main treasures.

Calella, the tourist capital of the Costa del Maresme, hides magical corners to discover, it is full of surprises and activities for all kinds of couples, both for the quietest and for those who never stop. Calella has a wide range of leisure activities with bars, restaurants, shops, exhibitions, museums, excursions, adventure sports … You won’t know where to start! It is for this reason that Hotel Bernat II offers you the best ideas and tips to make the most of your getaway and have an unforgettable romantic weekend. With all these ideas, surprising your lover will be easier than ever!

Be captivated by the Calella Lighthouse

Located at the highest point of the Capaspre mountain, the lighthouse, becomes the symbol of the city for excellence and therefore, an obligatory stop on your getaway as a couple.

The views are simply spectacular! From there, you will be able to contemplate the city of Calella, the whole of the sea, the beach and the mountains of the Montnegre and Corredor natural park.

Any time of the day is ideal to go, however, the star moment par excellence is undoubtedly the sunset; when everything is calm, when there are no tourists and when you can enjoy the serenity of the sea accompanied by the sea breeze that scatters the purple and reddish tones of the sunset. In addition, during the months of July, August and September the Summer Nights festival is held, which is a double opportunity both to enjoy quality exhibitions and to take advantage of and visit the Lighthouse at night. This year’s proposal is completed with a wine and tapas tasting, enjoying music and gastronomy in the same space.

Another incentive to go to the Calella Lighthouse is that in the same building there is the Calella Lighthouse Interpretation Center with an interesting exhibition on communications.

To access, you can park your car just before arriving or you can walk from the city (10 min walk from Hotel Bernat II). Although the lighthouse is elevated to a peak, it is very easy to get there, the path is very light.

Enjoy Calella from the air doing Parasailing

If you want to add a bit of activity to your getaway, for the most daring ones we suggest you to do Parasailing. In Calella, thanks to its mild climate, it is possible to practice water sports and outdoor activities during all the seasons. Among the wide variety of possibilities offered by the Water Sports Center, which you can consult here, we highlight the Parasailing, you will enjoy a flight full of emotions, adrenaline and above all, privileged panoramic views of Calella.

The Water Sports Center, where you can also kayak or even go with jet skis, is located in the Platja Gran, which, as the name suggests, is the largest of the three beaches in the city counting with almost 1 km and a half in length. This beach, certified with the Blue Flag for the quality of its services, is located in the center of town. It has a car parking area along the entire beach and is also very close to the train station. The access to this beach on foot is easy as there are different steps adapted for people with reduced mobility. It is located less than 10 minutes walk from the Hotel Bernat II and offers many services.

Add some relaxation

At the end of the day, there is nothing more romantic and relaxing than focusing on each other with a soothing massage. You will feel a maximum well-being that will help you to balance your mind, body and soul. It will allow you to eliminate stress, relieve your body tension and to increase both physical and mental well-being. Isn’t it a good idea to let yourself be surrounded by these sensations with your partner?

Hotel Bernat II is designed so that your getaway is perfect and you only have to worry about resting and enjoying these days to the fullest. It is for this reason, then, that from our hotel we offer massage services for all tastes that you can complete living a different experience in the Wellness Area, where you can enjoy all the facilities that we make available to our clients: Spa, swimming pool hydromassage, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, sequential bi-thermal showers and bi-thermal mist showers.

That is, if you want to surprise your partner, the Hotel Bernat II is your best ally thanks to our complete Wellness Area, the proximity of the beach, the enormous number of services offered by the population of Calella and the attentive and friendly treatment of our personal. Jul192021

Surrounding the Catalan capital, we find ourselves in front of a series of regions that are part of the Costa Barcelona tourist brand. Calella is a small corner of the Maresme that, despite not being a very big destination, it is full of activities, events and places to visit. Along with Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar and Malgrat de Mar, it is a municipality with the Family Tourism seal awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya. It brings together all the essence of the Mediterranean, standing out for its beautiful beaches but it is also characterized for having very good options for family, sports, gastronomic or cultural tourism.

In this city, also known as Calella de Mar and being considered the tourist capital of the Catalan coastal region, you can find a very good range of services, a wide range of leisure activities designed for all ages, a well-equipped beach and commercial offer of all kinds. In addition, it is perfectly adapted for pedestrians and has numerous green spaces, something that is fantastic because it allows you to do a lot of excursions and activities designed for all members of the family. So you can see that it is very difficult not to feel comfortable in this city specially prepared for you to spend quality time with your family!

Taking into account all this information, we want to propose 3 essential activities that you can not miss if you come to visit our city:

ESSENTIAL NUMBER 1: SWIM ON CALELLA’S BEACHES

Calella has almost three kilometers of blue and clean water, so the first thing we recommend you do when you arrive in Calella with your family is to enjoy its beaches. On the one hand, if you prefer to swim in a more intimate and quiet area, we recommend a short walk (inclusive) from the Passeig Marítim to Les Roques Beach where you will find a small beach of transparent water surrounded by rocks. This one is very close to the Lighthouse and to “Les Torretes“. It is also surrounded by small coves, Rocapins, La Vinyeta, Cala d’en Pere (nudist) or La Roca Grossa. However, if you are looking to be on a beach where you do not have to worry about finding a place to lay and where you can practice a wide variety of sports, we recommend going to Platja Gran or Platja del Garbí. From Platja del Garbí, awarded with the Q for Quality and Blue Flag, we not only highlight its waters and its breadth but also the great variety of  bars perfect to go for a drink. Out of the different options available, we highlight the Bahari Club, Hotel Bernat IIs Beach Club, located right in front of the hotel area of Calella. Here you can find discounts on drinks (if you are staying at the Hotel Bernat II) and also, if you make a reservation at their restaurant, they give you sunbeds, parasols and also a parking space! Something that is appreciated because sometimes it is difficult to find parking at the beach area.

On the other hand, in the hotel area where the Bahari Club is located, there is the Calella Tourist Association activity point, where you can find plenty of free or 20% off activities (for people staying at the Hotel Bernat II), ranging from bouncy castles to kayak excursions. Check out all the activities available here.

ESSENTIAL NUMBER 2: GET LOST IN DALMAU PARK

The Dalmau Park in Calella is a very pleasant natural area and the largest leisure area in the town for excellence, where the brand of Family Tourism Destination (DFT) can also be seen. That’s why we’ve added it to the must-do list.

It can be visited in an easy route, thanks to the paths and trails expressly indicated. It has children’s areas, picnic area, fountains, pine forests, garden areas and numerous benches to rest. It is an ideal environment full of greenery and multicolored flowers, which has at least 10 hectares of idyllic gardens and shady forests in the heart of Calella perfect for all those walks among pines and sculptures lovers. Dalmau Park, then, is the perfect counterpoint to combine beach and nature and, moreover, it can also offers a wide variety of activities to do:

  1. Do the botanical itinerary. It starts in the central part of the park, in the Font dels Lleons. In this way, the different types of vegetation that inhabit it can be observed. At the bottom are banana trees and in the part superior the Mediterranean forest predominates, with pines, oaks and weeds.
  2. For the little ones there are areas with children’s play facilities ranging from classic swings and slides to new and very modern games that encourage imagination and adventure.
  3. You can’t miss visiting the anti-aircraft shelter located on the edge of the park built in 1937, during the Civil War, to protect the population from bombing.
  4. If you want to walk around Calella, you can do the Ruta de l’Esquirol, one of the routes that passes through the middle of the Park. It lasts about an hour and is also perfectly marked with red squirrel-shaped paint. Its difficulty is very low and this allows it to be suitable for all family members.

ESSENTIAL NUMBER 3: DISCOVER THE STREETS WITH THE “CARRILET”

You can’t miss the opportunity to get on the Carrilet de Calella. It’s a little train and, almost like all this kind of trains, is open and they allow you to see the scenery and catch some fresh air while exploring the city. It’s the perfect option for walking the city’s main streets in a different way, especially if you’re traveling with kids and during the summer months. The full tour lasts approximately 40 minutes and it is a perfect plan to do with all the family!

The Calella tourist train offers an urban route through the different streets and the seafront. Round trip prices are € 3 for adults and € 1 for children. Up to 2 years is free. It runs every 20-25 minutes and runs from 9am to 10pm during the high season months. It has stops from one end of the city to the other, and one of those it is right in front of the Hotel Bernat II. It is also perfect for using it as a public transport if you come to Calella to spend the day.
