Calella (on the Maresme coast, near Barcelona) is a very family-friendly destination: it has wide beaches, seaside playgrounds and plenty of nearby excursions that are ideal for families.
Here at Hotel Bernat II, we offer a practical guide with ideas for families visiting Calella.
Things to do in Calella with children
Enjoying Calella’s Main Beach
The town’s main beach, with coarse sand, plenty of space and family-friendly facilities (lifeguards, showers). In summer, you’ll find beach bars open and water activities suitable for the whole family, such as inflatables, paddle surfing, banana boats, boat hire…
Playing at the Playground – Parc de les Veles
When children need to play outdoors, what could be better than a playground?
Located on the seafront promenade and inspired by the sea, you’ll find play equipment featuring boats, sails and water features. Perfect for young children and for picnics.
Relax at the open-air cinema
In August, there’s an event that transforms the beach into a huge cinema under the stars. Ideal for families, couples or groups of friends, this free cultural event combines the best of cinema with the charm of the Mediterranean at dusk.
Hopping on the Tourist Train – El Carrilet
Calella’s tourist train. Enjoy a comfortable ride through the whole town. A unique way to explore the coast and the town centre. An unmissable experience.
The Carrilet season runs from Easter until 1 November, operating every day of the week, including public holidays. Tickets can be purchased on board the Carrilet and it stops at our hotel.
TIMETABLE
- High season (June, July, August, September): from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
- Low season (March, April, May, October): from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm
A walk to Les Torretes
Les Torretes are the old 19th-century optical telegraph towers. The path offers an easy climb for children and you’ll find spectacular views of the sea. We recommend going at sunset, when it’s cooler.
Cycling around the Maresme
The EuroVelo 8 cycle route runs along the Maresme coast; it’s very flat and perfect for a family outing. You can cycle towards the Tordera River Delta or head to the Francesc Macià playground in Malgrat de Mar
Experience the Fiesta Mayor de la Minerva
With the arrival of autumn, the town comes alive with its most eagerly awaited days as it celebrates the Fiesta Mayor de la Minerva. You’ll find parades of giants, sardanes dancing, family activities and concerts at the beach pavilion.
